Edgewater Gets You Closer to KemahWhat’s less than 20 minutes away from Edgewater? Plenty of fun in Kemah. Home of the famous Kemah Boardwalk, this coastal locale boasts Bay views and plenty to do. Here are some of our favorite activities. Kemah’s most favorite attraction has something for everyone. The 60-acre amusement park is home to restaurants, rides, games, a 400-slip marina, shops and more. Popular rides include the Boardwalk Bullet rollercoaster, Boardwalk Tower, Aviator and Iron Eagle. Throughout the year, the Boardwalk plays host to numerous free events, including live music, fireworks and festivals. The Aquarium restaurant combines deep sea adventure with delicious dining. Dining takes place around a spectacular 50,000-gallon aquarium. The aquarium features more than 100 species of tropical fish from the Caribbean, Hawaii, South Pacific and Indian Ocean. A diver feeds the fish twice a day in full view of diners. Children, in particular, will love the exhibits, including the newly opened Stingray Reef that allow them to get up close and personal with these gentle sea creatures. Get out and explore the Bay at speeds up to 40 miles per hour. You are sure to get wet during the 25-minute trip that also includes music and entertainment. What was once a bustling meat market has become one of Kemah’s most beloved restaurants. Smoked brisket, ribs and sausages are paired with homemade spuds and coleslaw. Don’t miss the fried oyster baskets or the hush puppies. Live music is served up in Tom’s Backyard Tuesdays through Sundays. For a grown-up day out, unwind with one or more of Clear Creek Vineyards’ delicious vintages. Located in the heart of old Kemah, the Tuscan-inspired winery offers tasting tours and special events. Not as well-known as the Boardwalk, the Lighthouse District houses boutiques, antique shops, original art, spas and bistros. You can catch a horse-drawn carriage ride, hang out at one of the many pubs or just people-watch. |
